Talk on "Navigating the Sea of Knowledge: Analyzing and Indexing Scientific Texts" by Dr. Florian Boudin of Nantes University

We are pleased to inform you about the upcoming seminar by Dr. Florian Boudin (Nantes University) titled:"Navigating the Sea of Knowledge: Analyzing and Indexing Scientific Texts." Everyone interested is cordially invited to attend!

Title:

Navigating the Sea of Knowledge: Analyzing and Indexing Scientific Texts

Abstract:

Scientific digital libraries, such as arXiv, ACM Digital Library and PubMed, play a critical role in the development and dissemination of scientific literature. They provide researchers with access to millions of scientific documents that, as a whole, depict the current state of scientific knowledge. The obvious downside of having this considerable amount of information available is that keeping up with scientific literature has become a daily challenge. In this seminar, I will present my research group's efforts in leveraging Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to improve and facilitate access to scientific knowledge. More specifically, I will talk about automated methods for keyword generation and the profound impact that Large Language Models (LLMs) have had on this task.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Florian Boudin, Associate Professor (HDR) of Computer Science at Nantes University

Florian Boudin is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Nantes University, currently in research leave at the JFLI laboratory (https://jfli.cnrs.fr/) in Tokyo. His research lies within the fields of Natural Language Processing (NLP), which involves the analysis, understanding, and generation of natural language, and Information Retrieval (IR), which studies ways to retrieve information from a collection of documents. His main research interests include weakly supervised/unsupervised learning and graph-based approaches, specifically applied to enhance search and recommendation tools within large scholarly collections.
