Talk on "Natural language processing to support clinical decision-making: examples and privacy concerns" by Dr. Jocelyn Dunstan of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile
We are very pleased to announce the talk on "Natural language processing to support clinical decision-making: examples and privacy concerns" by Dr. Jocelyn Dunstan, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and the Institute of Mathematics and Computation Engineering, both at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Title:
Natural language processing to support clinical decision-making: examples and privacy concerns
Abstract:
In this talk, I will present examples of how computers' capacity to learn from previous data revolutionizes medicine. This highly interdisciplinary area is full of exciting challenges and debates. In particular, we will analyze large volumes of clinical text and the solutions and problems raised using deep neural networks. In particular, I will introduce classical tasks of clinical natural language processing and the state-of-the-art methods to solve these tasks. I will also discuss ethical concerns regarding using machine learning in medicine guided by the World Health Organizations' alignments. Finally, I will comment on what happens when clinical information is shared outside medical institutions (Apps, for example) and the privacy risks that come with it.
