Seminar on Secure and efficient big data analysis by Prof. Laurent d'Orazio from IRISA

This is our great pleasure to invite you to the seminar of. Prof. Laurent d'Orazio (IRISA) . All are welcome.

Title:

Secure and efficient big data analysis: (some) challenges and perspectives

Abstract:

Digital transformation has led to unprecedented data generation creating both opportunities and challenges. In particular, the convergence of cloud computing and Big Data technologies have attracted increasing attention during the last decades. Domains of application include the Internet, social networks, healthcare, smart cities and in particular vehicles/transports, smart agriculture, telecommunication or security monitoring. However, Big Data also has some negative aspects. One concern is about its environmental impact. Indeed data centers that are used to store and process data use a lot of energy. This contributes to climate change. Security (confidentiality, integrity, authentication, etc.) is another issue of big data. Big data may contain sensitive information, like personal, medical or financial data. These large amounts of data can also lead to a loss of privacy, since they can be used to track movements and/or activities of individuals. In such a context, an important research problem is: How to manage big data and continue improving our daily life, limiting its negative impact in terms of environmental impact and security? In this presentation we will discuss some challenges and present possible research directions related to data management and query processing.
