Title:

Integrating Lean Principles and Bloom's Taxonomy to Enhance Problem-Based Learning methodology

Abstract:

This talk will present a teaching methodology that utilizes the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) pedagogical approach, particularly in a Business Management course for students focusing on Logistics. PBL makes the students an active instrument in the learning process, particularly involving collaboration among them for solving problems. Our contribution to this approach involves the integration of Lean principles such as PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act), 5W1H (Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How), and the A3 Report.The latter encourages students to enhance their final presentation's clarity and visual effectiveness. A practical example illustrating the alignment of the A3 report with the PBL approach is provided.
In addition, the application of Bloom's Taxonomy is considered in the evaluation process, allowing for an in-depth assessment of students' competencies and skills. The effectiveness of this approach is verified by its implementation in an undergraduate discipline related to supply chain management. The experiment required students to leverage their creativity through audiovisual resources, focusing on the complex issue of the Bullwhip Effect affecting a make-to-stock supply chain.

Speaker Bio:

Prof. Oscar Salviano Silva Filho, Management School of PUC Campinas

Dr. Oscar Salviano Silva Filho is a Logistics and Supply Chain Management professor at the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) in Campinas, São Paulo. He holds MSc and DSc degrees in Automation Systems from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), earned in 1982 and 1989, respectively. With industrial experience and academic background, Prof. Silva Filho has contributed to logistics and supply chain management. He has coordinated projects involving public and private interests and provided valuable consultancy services to manufacturing and services companies in Brazil. Currently, his research focuses on two main areas: optimizing reverse logistics policies and e-learning technology based on Bloom's Taxonomy combined with active methodologies.
