First-Stage Training Program-Basic Course
[approximately 40 students]

April to September 2024

Introduction to research in state-of-the-art information science and narrowing down of interest areas

In the First-Stage Training Program-Basic Course (April-September), young researchers (mentors) selected from researchers in ACT-I and ACT-X(*), which are strategic research programs of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), and from experienced outstanding participants of informatics Olympiads and other contests will form groups with each of the students and provide dialog, advice, and guidance on their future research plan.

* : ACT-I & ACT-X: The ACT-I program was a JST Strategic Basic Research Program spanning fiscal 2016 to fiscal 2021, and was targeted at identifying and nurturing young researchers in the ICT field with the desire to solve humanity's current and future challenges using original ideas and establishing them as researchers. The ACT-X program (launched in fiscal 2019) is another such JST program, this one targeted at discovering and nurturing outstanding young researchers to address critical challenges facing Japan.
