Measures Needed to Further Improve the Journals
  • We value and actively publish not only research papers for an academic readership, but also papers on engineering applications which contribute to the advancement of electronic engineering and information- and communications-related industries.
  • As our English journals already receive more submissions from other countries than from Japan, we aim to enhance our system of editors and reviewers located overseas.
  • We need to reduce the time from receipt to publication, while maintaining quality.
  • We will continually review the electronic submissions system and the access system with the aim of making them more user-friendly.
E-journal Sales Promotion to University Libraries
  • As we prepared to fully implement site licensing in FY 2009, in 2008 we began to make proposals each year to the Japan Association of National University Libraries (JANUL) and the Private and Public University Libraries Consortium (PULC). We also take part in the meetings, held every September, at which publishers explain their proposals to PULC.
  • We have adopted a fee structure in which all subscriptions include online access, with the print journal as an option. The fee structure is fixed for three years (to be reviewed every three years).
  • We are making the service to libraries more convenient by placing no restrictions on simultaneous use and allowing access by walk-in users.
  • Libraries can track usage by viewing their own access statistics and related data.
Promotion to Authors to Further Increase Submissions
  • As part of our efforts to attract the interest of researchers across a wide range of fields, almost every monthly issue is a feature issue dealing with a current topical theme.
  • In 2008, with the help of SPARC Japan, we carried out active promotional work by exhibiting at international conferences in relevant fields in China (Shanghai) and Taiwan.
  • In 2009, we carried out another promotional activity at an international conference in the USA (Hawaii). Thus, we are working to increase our name recognition. Through our sales representative, we have also done promotions to the Korean consortium KESLI and in a touring book fair that visited four cities in China.
