GENERAL INFORMATION for Participants


1.Enter into Japan
You should possession of a valid passport and other relevant document in advance of your departure. Participants of certain nationalities must have an entry visa. Please contact the Japanese embassy/councilor in each country to get visa information.
In case that you need the documents from the Symposium Secretariat, please contact the Secretariat (dsrnara@nii.ac.jp, FAX: +81-3-4212-2150).

2.Travel Schedule
It would be greatly appreciated if you would inform the Secretariat of your Travel schedule in Japan soon after you decided.

3.Upon Arrival in Japan
1) Arrival in Kansai International Airport (KIX)
The most convenient and recommended way to Nara from KIX is to take the Airport Limousine. It takes approximately 80 minutes to arrive at Kintetsu Nara Station which is nearest stop of Hotel Fujita via Nara Hotel. You can purchase the airport limousine ticket at the Limousine Counter on the arrival floor. The one way fare is \1,800 (about US$17). The Airport Limousine departs from the No.9 stop about every 60 minutes.

2) Arrival in Narita International Airport
When you arrive in Narita, you may take an Airport Limousine or JR Narita Express to Tokyo Station. The one way fare of the Airport Limousine costs \3,000 (about US$27) and it takes about 80 minutes. JR Narita Express costs \2,940 (about US$27) and takes about 1 hour.
From Tokyo Station, you take a bullet train (Shinkansen) to Kyoto and change to Kintetsu, private railway company to Nara. The one way fare of Shinkansen to Kyoto costs about \13,500 (about US$123). From Kyoto to Nara, it takes 30 to 50 minutes and costs \610 (about US$5.5) to \1,110 (about US$10).

4.Accommodation in Nara
The Secretariat reserved a room for you at the Hotel Fujita Nara (http://www.fujita-nara.com). It is located five minutes walk from Kintetsu Nara Station.

a. Single room per night (21 room) \6,500 (about US$60)
b. Twin room for single use (30 room) \9,000 (about US$80)

They are the conference rate including service charge nor tax. Hotel serves a breakfast at the restaurant on the 1st floor. We can reserve a room with breakfast with extra \1,000.
It would be greatly appreciated if you give us your priority and duration by the November 7th, 2003. If you will have any accompany, or will plan to stay in another hotel, please let us know.

5.Venue of the Symposium: Nara-Ken New Public Hall
Nara-Ken New Public Hall is located in the Nara Park. It is about 20 minutes walk from the Hotel Fujita. You may take taxi from Kintestu Nara Station. It costs around \700 (about US$6) to \800 (about US$7).

6.Climate
In December, it is normally cold and sunny. The average of highest temperature is about 13.1 C (56 F) and the average of lowest is about 1.5 C (35 F).

7.Insurance
The symposium secretariat assumes no responsibility for compensation in the cases of your sickness, accident, death or disability nor does it arrange for the insurance or reimburse premiums paid therefore. It is your obligation to purchase insurance which may be necessary in case of accident, sickness and so forth.

8.Others
If you have special requirement or any question about your stay in Japan, for example, food, health condition.. , please let the secretariat know.

2. Abstract Submission
The Abstract Collection will be issued at the Symposium.
(1) Deadline: November 14, 2003

(2) Contents include:
(a) Format
- Abstract not exceeding 1,000 words in English (Microsoft Word)
- Title, Name(s), E-mail or mailing address, affiliation in centering form
- Title in Bold
- Font in Times 12 point
- Text in a single column

The Abstract Collection will be printed in black and white. Since the Symposium Secretariat arranges the abstracts, your special request for layout will not be accepted.
Images and monochrome photos are accepted, however details will not be clear due to the print condition. Please insert the re-sized image into paragraph for printing.
