Tour of NACSIS for Junior Scientists

On Thursday, August 20, 1998 a Tour of NACSIS for Junior Scientists was held at NACSIS, with the Science Museum's "Friends of Science" as the principal sponsor and the Institute of Electronics, Information, and Communication Engineers (IEICE) as co-sponsor. The theme of the tour was "How do scientists gather information," and the presentations included an explanation of the work of scientists and the role of NACSIS, as well as an overview and demonstrations of services such as Webcat, the New IR System, and the Electronic Library System. Also, personnel from the Secretariat of the IEICE provided a simple introduction to the work of the institute. Finally, participants were given an opportunity to use computer terminals to access the Internet in a hands-on classroom. The faces of the approximately 20 participants, who consisted mainly of primary school students, were glued to the screens in rapt attention.
