NACSIS annually conducts a "Survey of Science Information Databases" covering databases compiled and supplied by researchers, universities, and research institutions for the purpose of facilitating scholarly research. NACSIS has made available via the WWW a "List of Compiled Databases (by Category)" based on the results of these surveys since fiscal 1995. This list has now been updated to reflect the results of the fiscal 1997 survey. The total number of compiled databases reported in the fiscal 1997 survey is 2,163. Of these, links are provided to the associated Web sites (if such information was provided) in 331 cases. This makes the listing very useful for universities and other institutions who may wish to access the compiled databases directly.

Note that although links are not provided to compiled databases for which no Web page has been announced, a "call for links" has been announced at the Web page referenced above with the hope that this information will make the listing more useful in future. It is hoped that many database maintainers will cooperate with us in this endeavor.
