“Database ’98 Tokyo” was held at the Tokyo International Forum Exhibition Hall between Wednesday October 21 and Friday October 23, 1998. Sponsored by the Database Promotion Center, Japan and the Japan Database Association, “Database ’98 Tokyo” brought together in one place the latest systems used by database and electronic information services in Japan and overseas. This was the tenth year the exhibition was held, and the sponsors endeavored to make it better than ever in commemoration of this important milestone. The number of attendees this year totaled some 36,000 people.

NACSIS participated in the exhibition as part of our efforts to introduce our projects to a wider public and to promote the distribution of scholarly information. The presentation included demonstrations via the Internet of the Electronic Library Service (NACSIS-ELS), the Information Retrieval Service (NACSIS-IR), and the Union Catalog Database WWW Retrieval Service (Webcat), as well as demonstrations of the Union Catalog of Serials CD-ROM.
