Karuizawa Open Seminar at International Seminar House for Advanced Studies

Karuizawa Open Seminar at International Seminar House for Advanced Studies Since it opened on May 20, 1997, the NACSIS International Seminar House for Advanced Studies has been used for a wide variety of seminars and training sessions. On the occasion of the first anniversary of the opening, a Utilization Promotion Committee was formed to encourage the further development of this facility. Based on the deliberations and proposals of this committee, NACSIS plans to hold regular events such as workshops, open summer seminars, and symposia at the International Seminar House for Advanced Studies. As a start, a Karuizawa Open Seminar is planned, as indicated below. It is hoped that it will be attended by Karuizawa residents as well as people staying in the area during the summer season.

The lecturers at the seminar include members of the International Seminar House Utilization Promotion Committee as well as persons from outside NACSIS. They have been asked to give enjoyable talks about advanced themes as authorities in their fields.

The lectures began at 4:00 p.m., with approximately 30 audience members attending and listening intently. Also, attendees gathered round the lecturers to chat after their presentations. This opportunity to interact directly with the lecturers enabled attendees to gain an even deeper understanding of the topics being covered.
