Addition of German MARC to NACSIS-CAT System

NACSIS makes German MARC (Deutsche Nationalbibliographie) available via NACSIS-CAT(Cataloging System) as of November 1998.

MARC databases compiled by national libraries have been incorporated into NACSIS-CAT, thereby providing support for the efficient input of catalog data. At present, the holdings of university libraries in Japan include some 7.3 million books of German.

However, since German MARC data was not available, the Union Catalog Databases only covered approximately 1 million books in the category.

The German MARC contains bibliographic information compiled by the German National Library (Die Deutsche Bibliothek), and there was strong demand among the participating libraries for use of this data. NACSIS performed system development in fiscal 1997 as preparation for the addition of this database. With the availability of this new MARC, NACSIS expects the data held on German materials to increase significantly.

- Years covered:
1945 to the present
