Experimental Use of New Information Retieval Service
Experimental use of the information retrieval service run by NACSIS (NACSIS-IR) began on December 2 (Monday), 1996. The test period extends to March 28 (Friday), 1997. This is to allow individuals and organizations to try out the search services of the scientific information databases before applying for membership. Information on the method of connection, method of use, etc. can be obtained either from our web site (URL http://www. nacsis.ac.jp) or via our fax information service (fax: +81-3-3942-7865).
Formal use will require an application for membership. For this, either obtain our application form from our fax information service or ask for an application by fax (+81-3-3942-6797) addressing the request to "User Support Section I" clearly specifying "Service Information Desired" and your mailing address.
The method of operation of the fax information service is explained below:
- Operating Hours (Japan Time)
Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 am the next day
Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
The service is not available on Sundays, February 11 (Tuesday), 1997 and March 20 (Thursday), 1997.
- Method of operation of fax information service
(1) Pick up the handset of your fax machine. (If your fax machine does not have a handset, switch to manual reception. Further, for dial lines, push the tone button.)
(2) Dial the fax information service of NACSIS (+81-3-3942-7865).
(3) Following the audio guide (in Japanese only), punch in the "Box No." of the material desired and the pound key "#". (For information on test use of the NACSIS-IR service, punch in the Box No. "80". For an application for membership etc., punch in the Box No. "10".)
(4) When finished, press the pound key "#". (If continuing, perform the steps of (3) again.)
(5) Press the "receive" button of the fax machine and hang up the handset. (The designated material will then be sent by fax.)
