Meeting on Joint International Research
in NACSIS -Thai Project

NACSIS
The National Center for Science Information Systems has been engaged in
joint international research in NACSIS-Thai projects with researchers from Thailand since fiscal year 1994. The seventh conference was held at NACSIS from December 4 (Wednesday) to 6 (Friday) with the following four representatives from Thailand:

- Professor, Asia Institute of Technology (AIT)
- Ms. Chutiporn Anutariya
- Assistant Researcher, Asia Institute of Technology (AIT)
- Dr. Yunyong Teng-Amnuary
- Assistant Director, Chulalongkorn University
- Mr. Pasakorn Prathombuti
- Manager, Network Technology Laboratory, The National Electronics
and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC)
This meeting was held as part of the joint international research on "Joint study of international exchange of academic information" (project headed by Prof. Kinji ONO).
The meeting focused particularly on the effective use of the SINET-ThaiSarn international link. Presentations and demonstrations were given by both sides on the following themes. The specific items for discussion were as follows:
- Introduction of the National Center for Science Information Systems
and summary of NACSIS-Thai projects
- Thai on-line projects and overseas monitors
- Exchange of information on current state of ThaiSarn and SINET networks
- Strategy for effective utilization of SINET and ThaiSarn link
- Introduction of AIT's Electronic Library project and methods of
cooperation with same
- Exchange of information on feasibility of satellite data transfer
of between the Institute of Industrial Science of the University of Tokyo
and the AIT
- Introduction of facilities of the National Center for Science
Information Systems relating to remote education and future plan
- Summary - Future Issues
Participating from the National Center for Science Information Systems were
representatives of its Research and Development Department and its
Operations Department. Further, explanations were given on individual
themes by participants from the School of Engineering and the Institute of
Industrial Science of the University of Tokyo. As this was the third and
final fiscal year of the project, opinions were exchanged regarding the
hosting of the third WAINS Workshop in Bangkok.
