Mr. Brian J. Perry

On Tuesday, March 3, NACSIS staged a series of lectures as part of the "Study of International Exchange of Academic Information," an international joint research project funded by a grant-in-aid from Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture . Entitled "Strategy for University Libraries: requirements for the future," the lectures were attended by 70 or so participants.

The program commenced at 2 PM in the National Education Center. First, however, Dr. Hiroshi Inose, the Director General of NACSIS, delivered an address which touched on the objectives of the program. His address was followed by a lecture given by Dr. D.E.K. Wijasuriya, Former Director of the National Library of Malaysia. Entitled "Sharing of Information Resources in Asia and Oceania," this lecture was based on the experiences which the lecturer had gained through the implementation of a data resource sharing program among the member nations of ASEAN. After a short break, Mr. Brian J. Perry, former Research & Development Director of the British Library, addressed the audience. With the theme of "British University Libraries: Future Plans," Mr. Perry's lecture discussed the steps being taken for the future at Britain's university libraries. When this lectured came to an end at 5:30, a question and answer session was held.
