1994 Edition of "Union Catalog of Serials in European Languages"

After roughly three years of editing following the commencement of the research in November 1992, NACSIS published the 1994 edition of the "Union Catalog of Serials in European Languages" in March of this year.

Containing bibliographical details and information on the scientific periodicals held by university libraries and similar institutions in Japan, this list is now being widely used as a tool for inter-library loan and photocopy services in Japan.

The NACSIS-CAT (Cataloging Information Service) was used to compile the catalog. The catalog is an edited version of the information contained in the Union Catalog of Foreign Serials database, which was created through shared cataloging by university libraries. In addition to the on-line entries, a variety of media, such as CD-ROMs and reports on datasheets, are available to input data from libraries to this database. Approximately 90% of all universities and colleges in Japan are covered by the catalog.

The catalog consists of 8 volumes with a total of 7,000 pages. It contains the data provided below.

Now that the editing work has been completed for this list, editing of the Japanese-language version of the catalog is scheduled to begin this year. When this has been completed, plans call for a CD-ROM combining both the European-language and Japanese language-versions to be released.
