JOIS Gateway Service

NACSIS and the Japan Information Center of Science and Technology (JICST) have entered into a cooperative agreement for mutual access of databases through a bidirectional gateway, and this connection started in November 1993. After a trial period of nearly a year, full-scale operation started in October 1994. This connection enables reciprocal access to the information retrieval system provided by NACSIS (NACSIS-IR) and the on-line information system provided by JICST (JOIS).

NACSIS users can now access the JOIS databases through NACSIS-IR. Before using the JOIS databases, it is necessary for each NACSIS user to apply for a JOIS access form from JICST, but the basic charge of Yen1000 per month is waived for all NACSIS users. Of the NACSIS users, those belonging to organizations such as universities, junior colleges, technical colleges, and inter-university research institutes can access four databases for a reduced rate.

As of October 1994, NACSIS users can access 16 of the JOIS databases provided by JICST. In the other direction, NACSIS makes 30 databases available to JICST users.
