Scholarships
Application for the National Institute of Informatics (NII) Scholarship
NII offers a scholarship for privately financed non-Japanese students.
This program is conducted for the purpose of providing economic aid to outstanding non-Japanese students in particular.
The NII scholarship is for students from leading universities with outstanding graduates, and the scholarship does not have to be paid back.Preferential treatment may be given to students from countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
It is possible to receive economic aid equivalent to a MEXT scholarship in the amount of 158,000 yen monthly.
Note: Admission fee, tuition fee and travel expenses for entrance are covered by this scholarship.

The NII scholarship covers a 3-year period from the date of enrollment.
Example: From October 2008 to September 2011 for applicants admitted in October 2008
From April 2009 to March 2012 for applicants admitted in April 2009
When applying for the NII scholarship, applicants must obtain three letters of recommendation to be addressed as follows:

President of the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI)
Note: One letter of recommendation written by the dean of the applicant's home institution.
Two letters written by professors of the applicant’s home institution.
During the selection procedure for the NII scholarship, applicants’ GPA (grade point average) and ranking within the home institution as marked on their official transcripts will receive careful consideration.
Research grant for non-Japanese students based on the MOU lnternational Agreements of the National lnstitute of lnformatics(MOU Fellowship) Outright grant,not a loan.
This program is intended for especially outstanding non-Japanese students enrolld in the doctoral program who originate from
organizations with which Nll has concluded Memorandum of Understanding(MOU)lnternational Agreements.
Amountof grant:Equivalent to that provided for a government−financed non-Japanese student(ln addition to the monthly stipend,support is also provided for travel expenses,admissions fees and other academic fees)

For Current Students
Application for MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship for current Sokendai students
For current Sokendai students (privately financed non-Japanese students) there is another MEXT scholarship application.
The MEXT scholarship application is only for current students, but applicants who are accepted for enrollment in April may also apply.
All applicants must have an excellent academic record in a graduate university and sufficient linguistic capability. The grant starts from April each year.
Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Honors Scholarship for privately financed international students
The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) offers financial assistance for current Sokendai students (privately financed non-Japanese students).
Accepted applicants receive a monthly grant for the fiscal year provided from JASSO.
