1st call of 2012 NII International Internship Program Guidelines for Applicants

                             


This program is a part of the NII’s international exchange activities with students from organizations with which the NII has concluded an MOU agreement. It is aimed to give interns the opportunity to engage in research activities as well as receive guidance in their research from professors at NII.

This incentive program is an opportunity for professional and personal development.

1. Target candidates:
   Master's and/or Ph. D. degree students who are enrolled in the partner institutions that have signed MOU agreements with NII.

    Note: Those who have obtained the Doctor of Philosophy degree before the start of internship program are not qualified as internship students.

 

2. Time frame:
   
  Interns accepted for this program will participate in for a period of 60days to 180 days including your traveling, with the start during the period from June 2012 to March 2013.

3. Application:

  • Candidates 
      -Fill out the NII International Internship Program application form and submit it to your supervisor.
      -Choose up to three topics out of the list of research topics.
   -CV should be contained in the application form.
   -We encourage candidates to make a contact with NII supervisors whom they would like to conduct research topics in advance.
      -No direct application from candidates is accepted.
 
 • Each partner Institution

      -Collect application forms from candidates and after making its selection, send them to NII via e-mail
      -Each partner institution can send a maximum of three applications.
   -The partner institution is responsible for the qualification and the curriculum planning of the student.

4. Application deadline:
      Application deadline is on April 19, 2012.

5. Selection:
      Screening of candidates is conducted by each NII laboratory according to the research topics chosen by candidates. 

6. Notification:
    Notification to successful candidates will be after May 11, 2012. NII will contact the person in charge of “NII International Internship Program” in each partner institution.

 Important: NII internship students must work on the topic which has been agreed before their arrival and comply with NII work and behavior regulations. In case of non-respect of the conditions, NII will take an appropriate action including termination of their internship.

7. Sojourn expenses:
     NII Internship students will be covered Overseas travel accident insurance and 5,700 JPY per day as sojourn expenses (171,000 JPY/30 days) which is sufficient to live in Tokyo. The sojourn expenses will be covered during their stay at NII only. Transportation expenses are in principal not paid.

8. Final evaluation:
      After completion of the internship period and submission of a report to NII, NII will issue a certificate to NII internship students.
